A Columbus Zoo Day

Updated: Aug 22, 2022

Heat Advisory, so what, we can do this. The zoo is mostly in shaded areas and even on the hottest days we can go off the path into an air conditioned facility. So what's the problem, at least that is what I am trying to convince myself, and hope that the kids don't get overexposed on one of the hottest days with a heat advisory. Who knew that the victim of this excessive temperature would fall on me. After spending 24 plus hours in an ER, with heart event types of issues, I have been brought to my knees in humility, realizing that I brought this on myself. Within minutes, I am sitting on a bench, struggling to breathe, sweating and clammy and nearly passing out. The mister brings me a candy gummy, thinking it was my sugar. Next came a zoo container of water, which goes down fairly quickly but not changing the escalating symptoms. The temps were rising and the heat index was at 105 degrees by noon that day. I didn't make it to noon. We gather the grandkids load them in the car and drive to our air conditioning home. Relief, I thought, was the next step in this saga of our day at the zoo. Unfortunately, symptoms continue through the night and into the next day. So off to the Doctor's I go... off to the ER I go by squad... admitted for observation. The rest is history, with many blood draws and special orders for what appeared to be a heart event. However, here we are two days later and it seems I hit the trifecta for this perfect race. Heat, poor hydration, poor nutrition, and trying to do too much by hitting the zoo two days back to back during Ohio's highest temps and heat advisories. Just a few pictures attached from the two days at the Columbus Zoo.
